Russia is the largest country in the world by area, spanning Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. In 2014 it annexed Crimea and began hostilities in eastern Ukraine, and on 24 February 2022 it launched a full-scale invasion. The UN General Assembly has recognised these actions as aggression against Ukraine.
